A State Of Emergency

Looks like Oklahoma is in for it! Our entire state is under a 'state of emergency' (makes me think of that beautiful Bjork song) due to a 'potentially catastrophic' winter storm that is beginning to hit right now. Oh joy. Weather like this though does make work in the electrical contracting field mighty interesting! Many Oklahomans aren't looking forward to a repeat of the December 2007 ice storm, myself included!

The really crappy part about this weather system? Well, there are many organizations having fundraisers this weekend and when you put a half-inch of ice on the roads, well, many people tend to stay at home. When you've put so much time and effort into planning a large event like that, the show must go on! I'm sending all of the positive energy I have to all of the organizations facing this problem and hope that things turn out well for you! We have donated many pieces to many organizations lately, two of which have events this weekend!

Firstly, Tulsa Opera is having a fundraiser Saturday night where you can find this piece and another that I can't find a picture for! Figures ;)

Then Sunday afternoon, StreetCats is hosting My Furry Valentine. You may remember my post about this event last year. This little heartwarmer will be in their silent auction :)

And finally, we've donated two pretties to a fundraiser for an Oklahoma City elementary school which the name of has escaped me! Guess I have ice storm brain today ;)

In other news, we are SO close in releasing all of the information about our upcoming craft show! I can tell you to save the date though...June 26th in Tulsa!!!! Plan on it!!!
Did I mention that I've FINALLY been putting goodies on our etsy site??? FINALLY! Looks like my list of things to accomplish this year is off to a good start :)
Until later!

As many of you know or have picked up on, I really like to clean and organize. In fact, I'm thinking of doing a little series on how to organize goodies on here. That's how much I enjoy it :) I have issues. More than I can count. And I'm proud of it.

So the past two evenings have been spent cleaning cleaning cleaning my workspace up. This really needed to be done since we've added the new fuzzy addition. Apparently, she's a big fan of knocking beads around the floor and chewing on wire that didn't make it to the trash. I've been fuzzy-proofing the place.

One of my five million issues is scouring the flea market and garage sales for cool old earrings, pins, buttons, and anything else that can live on a wire. I take the finds and place them on an old sterling silver tray that was my Great Granny's that serves as my inspiration board and catch all for shiny goodies. It's been a long time since I've cleaned that puppy out well. I began by pulling everything off of the platter and grouping things together by color, meanwhile removing items that I don't see myself working with anytime soon. These items are passed along to others who share my passion for repurposing :)

The mister pegs me as a closet hoarder. I respond by reminding him that at least I'm organized and clean!

After going through all of the baubles and color grouping them, I replaced them back on the platter in a circular rainbow pattern making things easier to go through and prettier to look at.
Purty!

And, TaDa! You now have, not an eyesore, but a pretty visual feast to peruse! Oh, my OCD Great Granny would be proud!

Until my next adventure!

Fuzzy Friday Tuesday Twist

I know it's not Friday but I've got big fuzzy news!!! We added a brand new fuzzy to the herd! Sadly, our elderly neighbor passed away last week and I agreed to help the family to find homes for her two precious kitties. I didn't expect to fall in love with them and I certainly didn't expect to bring one into our home but sometimes the unexpected happens! Here's a little taste of our new little lady. She'll share her face when she gets to know you a little bit more :)

Ba Ba Ba-Ba

In case you can't hear me singing that subject line, I'm singing the wedding march :) So I finally finished that last minute wedding necklace and I'm in love with it!

The requests:

flapperish
three strands
longest strand to hit the waist
pearl strand to be included
cerulean blue accent
gunmetal or dark silver

So here's what I came up with!

Of course I had to use some repurposed pieces like this vintage blue earring that brings it all together!
This little diddy can be clipped on anywhere! She can put it under the blue disc, on the clasp to hang down her back, on her bouquet, on her garter, in her hair or anywhere she can dream up! Later in life she could use it as a bookmark, a keychain, blah blah blah...the possibilities are endless!
I'm so happy with how it turned out! It was lots of fun to 'build' this one :) Her dress is black so I think it will pop beautifully on it! I can't wait to see pictures of her in it!!!
Until later!

Attention Krafty Folks!

If you or anyone that you know may be interested in receiving information about our upcoming new craft show this year, shoot me an email to sheezkrafty3@yahoo.com to be added to the information mailing list! I'm getting excited about this and can't wait to share more info with you!!!!!!!!!

Little Bit of This, Little Bit of That

Two more weeks and back in the classroom I go! In the meantime, I've been cooking, cleaning, beading, wiiing, working, singing nonsensical songs to the fuzzies and tending to my mister who has a jacked up neck. What's that? Less talk, more pictures? Well, ok, if you insist! Here's a few snippets from the past week.

Cooked my first turkey using my Granny's beloved cookbook that I inherited.

The best part of the cookbook? All of my Granny's handwritten notes on the recipes :)
I must say, turkeys are super easy to cook, taste delish, feed a ton BUT are royally gross to stick your hand inside to pull out the grody stuff!
Vegetarians look away! Here's our demolished turkey after we each practiced some not-so-perfected carving skills.
April and I scooted out south to the Vintage Tulsa Show which was much like the Flea Market, minus the crap booths (no offense crap booths!) where you have to pay $5 to get in. We got SO much stuff there! AND I got a killer deal on these vintage Bakelite stud earrings! They make me smile :)
A funny little story about that show. You may or may not know that I come from a family of collectors. My mom has collected antique books, baskets, bells and other doodads while my dad has collected antique cigarette lighters, lanterns, flashlights, flint and steel and anything else that makes light or fire. Growing up, I spent many weekends on antiquing road trips or traveling the nation for different shows, mainly lighter shows. Not going to lie, I learned more from the history of lighters and flashlights than I ever did in the classroom! Long story short, at this Vintage Tulsa show, I witnessed a boy, maybe 9 or 10, buying a lighter while his mom told the vendor that he had decided to start a collection, a lighter collection. I fought the urge to inform them that that may turn into a lifelong collecting problem :)
Finally, I got a last minute order to do a wedding necklace for a friend of a friend. I'm nearly done now and I am enamored with it! She requested a deep cerulean blue, pearls and a dark, almost gunmetal, silver, multiple strands with a flapper-vibe. It's been a fun one! I'll share the finished product soon :)
Until later snookums!!!

Belated Holidays

Have you ever bought a present but forgot about it or ordered something and it came late? Well, one of my presents for the mister came New Year's Eve and was one of those forgotten gifts! Sometimes, those forgotten gifts are the best ones though! Check out the pillowcase I had made for the mister with the beast on it! How freaking funny is that?!?! Bet you can't guess which side of the bed I sleep on. ;)

Since Christmas was delayed (still haven't even done Christmas with the inlaws!) and presents came late, I thought I'd do my New Years business late too. :) So here we go!

Hmm. What to I aspire to do this new year, this new decade? Hmm. I suppose you can call these resolutions or just things I wish to accomplish.

*Continue jogging and run in a 5K.
*Organize and host a kickin' new craft show in T-Town (that's right, you heard it first!)
*Go to a state or country I've never been to before.
*Survive tornado season in OK bravely. Me no likey tornadoes :(
*See my sister more than once this year.
*Have the most successful year of teaching I've ever had.
*Learn how to prepare artichokes without buying them in jars, how to make a pie crust from scratch, how to make gravy (I know Moma, you've showed me how before but I just can't quite get it...) and to make my own pasta.
*Take more weekend trips JUST to see my friends. No weddings, no shows, just to hang out :)
*Organize my dad's office (this could be one of the most difficult goals to meet ;)
*Conquer my new sewing machine!
*Teach the beast to carry a backpack.
*Finally have my garden party I've been mentally planning forever.
*Be more helpful in the garden with the mister - he'll certainly appreciate this one!
*Continue to keep my health in check.
*Witness or participate in a flash mob.
*Be MUCH better about posting things on Etsy.
*Drink less pop, eat more spinach. Mmmm spinach.

Man, that's hard to think about! I'm sure there's a million more things that I would like to do in the next 360 days but we'll just leave those swimming around in my head for now :) We'll see how I'll do! Perhaps I'll update you with my progress come mid-year and of course, close to the dawn of 2011!

Until later!
